Abstract:
Presented are specific moments from the design process of a detector hybrid for space research mass-spectrometric applications. The hybrid consists of a silicon multipixel solid-state detector and the adjacent readout electronics. This is a special development for the purposes of the suprathermal time-of-flight sensor STOF of the CELIAS spectrometric system on the ESA/NASA scientific satellite SOHO, launched in December 1995. The detector hybrid concept was used after SOHO/CELIAS/STOF in the energy-and-charge analyzer SEPICA (Solar Energetic Particle Ionic Charge Analyzer) on ACE (Advanced Composition Explorer), in orbit since 1997. The idea of creation of detector hybrid is not a new one. It emerged in conformity to the development of the nuclear high energy experiments in direction to the increase of the information volume from one side, and from the other side in improvement towards a more precise particle registration. The main problems of the conventional organization of signal processing in concern to the low-noise transmission of analog signals are to a great extent solved with the development of a single chip multichannel amplifier readout electronics connected to the solid-state detector diodes in one assembly.
